By Air

Republic of Macedonia has two international airports, the main airport in the capital Skopje “Alexander the Great Airport” (SKP) and another in“St.Paul the Apostle Airport” (OHD). There are around 150 flights in a week from different European cities to Skopje.From the low-cost airlines, only WizzAir flies directly between Skopje and London (Luton Airport), and Venice (Treviso Airport).

By Road

The road communication makes the main transport network. The main international highway the E-75 crosses the country. Network of well maintained roads links its towns and its popular tourist areas.

The Republic of Macedonia is linked with neighboring and some West European countries by both regular and seasonal bus routes. Direct bus services with: Ljubljana, Sofia, Munich, Bonn, Dusseldorf, Stuttgart, Dortmund, Frankfurt, Vienna, Malme, Gothenburg.

Taxis are avilable everywhere at reasonable fares.

You can rent a vehicle (with or without a driver)

For vehicles: the car license, the green of blue insurance card and the power of attorney if another person drives the car.

By Rails

The Republic of Macedonia is linked up with European countries by a railway line, which crosses the country (from Serbia and Montenegro to Greek border).

Macedonia has a well developed railroad system. It is connected to Serbia and Montenegro to the north, and to Greece to the south. The main station is in Skopje. All domestic lines are operated by Macedonian Railways with links from Skopje to Kumanovo in the north, to Tetovo in the west, to Shtip in the east, to Veles and Gevgelija in the south, and Prilep and Bitola in the southwest. Intercity trains link Skopje with Serbia and Montenegro and Greece. Travel to Bulgaria is via Nish, Serbia and Montenegro.

CURRENCY

The Macedonian currency is (Macedonian Denar – MKD).

Money should be exchanged in official exchange offices (banks, post offices, hotels, tourist agencies) according to current exchange rates. When leaving Macedonia foreigners can exchange MKDs back into foreign currency (at official places) only after presenting the evidence on exchange for Denars when entering the country.

Some major credit cards (Diners, American Express, Visa and MasterCard/EuroCard) and euro-checks can be used for payments wherever noticed, as a rule in most hotels, shops, and restaurants.
